Transforming a cabin

This was a proposal for how a cabin in Hjelmeland could be transformed to optimize its use while also adding an annex. The cabin is originally a pre-fabricated cabin from the 70s with narrow hallways and small spaces.

My design is based on the owner’s wish to have a stronger connection between the outdoor breakfast area to the east and the kitchen in the middle of the cabin. The owners also wanted more bedrooms to accommodate a growing family. I have removed the pre-existing walls that were not load bearing, placed bedrooms and bathrooms towards the back of the cabin, facing north, and kept only common areas in the southern front of the cabin maximizing the view towards the ocean. I’ve opened up the southern rooms so that there are uninterrupted view lines and movement between the common spaces and the outdoor spaces. In the back (north) of the cabin, I’ve added a discreet annex, supplying the cabin with extra space.
