Densification of a residential neighborhood
This lot has two apartment buildings from the 60s. Otherwise the entire neighborhood consists of older wooden villas and brick apartment buildings. When densifying this area, we did not want to change the overall identity and feeling of the place. We wanted to make the footprint and typology blend well with its surroundings. Due to this we designed a building out of brick and wood. The entire complex consists of 20 apartments of different sizes with common indoor and outdoor areas. Our goal has been to encourage community and social engagement as was seen in the dense workers districts of the 1800s and early 1900s.
