Transforming an historic house into a summer residence

This old log house from the 1700s was to become e a summer residence for two artists and their families. The building itself tells many stories of previous use and earlier transformations. My main goal was to preserve the buildings identity with all its quirks and qualities. I changed as little as possible and kept the most of the original floor plans as is. Shared bathrooms are incorporated on both floors. The kitchen and living rooms on the ground floor are also shared between the two families. On the other floors the floor plan is split into two private sections, one for each family. Nearly all the original wallpaper and-decor is preserved while the traditional color palette is maintained. The attic has become a rustic atelier with north facing windows to let in light.
