A project brought to us by a developer in Bergen. This project is located in a suburb of Bergen, right next to a big shopping mall. The goal was to densify this housing area while giving back to a community often disturbed by commotions and gang culture.

We proposed a courtyard block structure where we put extra focus on the courtyard being a safe space that invites you to play and be outside. The challenge was to adapt to a very steep terrain without removing land masses so that we could still keep a low CO2-impact. Our proposal is based on building that terrace into the terrain. This way they can have both an active front towards the lower ground floor, with businesses and public activity, and a private back towards the courtyard.
