Pavilion
Building by the waterfront at Hitra
In this project I was to design a pavilion at Titran, an area on an island out in the Trondheim fjord. I was free to use whatever material i wanted, the only stipulations was to create a space that could rouse interest and invite people outdoors and inside the structure.
My design is called “between land and sea” and my objective was to bring focus to how the water moved between a tiny island and the mainland when the tide was high. At high tide the water would shimmer and reflect light onto the concrete canopy. The canopy would also help amplify the small sounds the water made when it moved across the stones in the seabed. The wooden bridges give visitors a platform to experience this, whereas the wooden structures bowing around the canopy gives shelter while mimicking the skeleton of a boat the way boats traditionally were pulled onto shore top-down for storage.
