The lots i was given for this project were deep and very narrow and set in an urban context. I wanted to create a neighborhood that facilitates for smaller businesses on the ground floor. I wanted to create a street with possible cafes, shops and restaurants. As the front of the lot borders to a trafficked road, I wanted to create a separate “street” through the courtyards of the houses, which is quiet and pedestrian only. By doing this I also made the houses face inwards instead of outwards. The entrances are therefore from the courtyard, while each of the private backyards are closed in by perforated walls towards the front road.
